How to Answer "why are you looking for a change" question.

This is for people who are experienced and who want to shift to another company.

May be it is telephonic or personal interview this is the most obvious question asked in the interview.

I dont know why they would ask this question , I need experts advice and answers to this.

These are the following points I read and heard somewhere regarding this question.

1. Never say bad about the company you are working with.
2. Never say money is the factor.
3. Say new opportunities, new challenges, new technologies blah blah..
4. Say wanted a change in technology/domain.
5. Or else use product based/service based terminology.

So this is what the list I have. I have said something blunder in the interview which I faced a 6 months back.

Now tell us how will you answer this.

    Well, there are several reasons one might want to change the company. Most of the time (from my experience) it is 1. Difference of opinion with manager/collague and not being able to work with them 2. Boredom by doing repetitive work over a period of time 3. Want of more pay.

    If the reasons is the #1 mentioned above, it's better not to say this to Interviewers. I'm not saying you should not be honest - but keep in mind that Interviewer may not know the backdrop of your decision to leave present company and look for another job. In my opinion, people who leave their job because they aren't content with their professional relationship with bosses and colleagues are over-reacting. Since you do not have ample time to justify your decision, it's better to keep it personal.

    Of course, the reasons to look for a change would be different for everyone, but the one that works well is "Newer Opportunities". Your new job offers you a new environment, new colleagues, new project and maybe newer learning opportunities. If you discuss those with the Interviewers, you'll make a good impression.

    I would try to answer the question as honestly as you can. Of course, if you hated the job you had before don't go that route. However, I think that you can twist the truth in a more positive light. If you give the generic response people will see through that. Try and focus on the company you are interviewing with and the positive aspects of their business that has drawn you towards it.
