@anand.ssukhi • 12 May, 2009 seems everyone wants to rest this summer..
@silverscorpion • 12 May, 2009 • 1 like I've planed to use my summer holidays effectively. As soon as I go back to college, i'll get super busy with final year projects and placement procedures. And then, there's this little thing called CAT.

So, I plan to do something useful in the sem holidays. Originally, I planned to learn to solve the rubik's cube. For the past three days, I've devoted two to three hours a day for the cube.
Now I've accomplished majority of that goal. I can now solve the cube. But I take close to eight minutes to solve it. I wanna reduce it to less than two minutes. I'm gonna work towards that.

And then, I plan to brush up on my C and algorithms for my placements. Also, some core subjects like networks, communications and digital electronics.

I've applied for internship from a management company. Hope it materializes.
That's all for now. I'm quite free now, and I'm thinking of ay other useful activity to do.

Any good idea, CEans?? I'm open to ideas.
@Ashraf HZ • 12 May, 2009 First thing would be to chill out and cool your brain! Catch up with your relatives and old buddies to show them that you are still alive.

Then.. maybe work together with one or more friends on a wacky project 😛

Personally, I would do what SS would.. like brush up on some key skills.
@Saandeep Sreerambatla • 12 May, 2009 No Summer holidays for me , how it would be if Software employees are also given summer holidays?

And a suggestion to Final year students:

If software job /any job is your primary goal after B.tech /studies then concentrate more on Mathematics , puzzles and English
Maths and English will be there in almost all competitive exams so it will be a lot useful.
@shalini_goel14 • 12 May, 2009 • 2 likes Wow, very nice thread. Liked this initiative. Going to be very helpful for majority over here 😁

*Looks like Big_K is going to beat everyone here in getting the title "CEoM" for this May month. 😉

Well, I guess I can only better give my suggestions for CS students only 😔

First Year students : Make your C language concepts clear and strong and if possible make simple projects in both sems.

Second Year students: If possible increase the level of your projects and try to do some tough projects on latest languages or frameworks. Get thorough with basics of programming and better if can get hold on Java.

Third Year students: Make yourself master of things learnt in last two years and start preparations for your goal
a) If pursuing for technical side (MS or Mtech) Start its preparation. Better if clear the exams in 3rd year only.
b) If have interest in jobs , start doing preparations for aptitudes and solving companies's last year placement papers and getting more and more information about companies and their profiles.
c) If have interest in MBA, sorry no ideas. I never recommend any good engineer to go for MBA. Good engineers don't waste their 4 years study in management.
d) Make good and unique and difficult projects if doing training from some company. Even if that company is not imparting any knowledge to you, try to make your self interest projects. Don't say sit idle in last two years atleast.

Final year students: Of course have already very hectic schedule because of major project. If possible try to devote your maximum time in your project and make that project rocking for the world. Put your all ideas and imaginations and efforts into it. It can take you very very high. 😁

Common in all years : Be regular in CE to gain more and more knowledge and making projects.

Finally more and more good projects means more nearer to SUCCESS you are. 😁

PS: Very sad I could not join CE during my engineering years may be I would have been very near to my aim. 😔
@Ajith Kumar • 28 Oct, 2015 all must spend this summer on developing our engineering projects beyond others can do because now a days many engineers were spending time to how they can place in an most off top company without any knowledge in there own subjects so please try to spent time on carrier goals and try to be master in English knowledge

Students should do internship during summer holidays. They can take personality development classes to prepare themselves for the interviews. They can do some small projects also. They can do some some courses to enhance their technical skills. No matter whether online or offline. They must themselves with the market trends. What skills are in demand.Use summer holidays to learn these skills.

It's equally important to give time to yourself.Do want you want to love. After taking proper rest do above activities.

I think it's difficult to start those activities as soon as holidays start. After the end of the paper proper sleep is required.

Summer Holidays are to enjoy, so according to engineers should travel and explore mysterious places as well as search mysterious technologies for fun.

Remember  "All work and no play, makes anyone a dull boy"

Even enjoying holidays might bring a new and different idea to work on after holidays. After ages, when you will look back, you will often remember the memories of fun you had and not the struggle to be a successful person in life.

Even great programmers across the world do enjoy summer or winter holidays, as the case may be.

Think over this.

In my view, if one wish to use their time effectively then no day is a holiday. Holidays are just break from college days not a break to learn, explore, do new things.

When it comes to learn and explore it doesn’t always means studying and doing some kind of internships. It can be something but not limited to studies.

There are multiple ways to spend the holidays, for example if one wishes to have a strong profile and prepare themselves for the upcoming milestone called interview, they can go for summer internships, online courses, bridge classes of their own technical subjects to build up the knowledge. And then comes to the most interesting thing everybody wants to do is travelling.

Travelling to a new place gives you a chance to know what exactly is going around the world. We cannot be always a frog in the well but a bird to fly and explore much.

The other options is to do some projects, projects not always limited to their academics but also some research kind of thing what’s happening in the society, general practices, social activities and all.

There is one other thing that can be done by utilising the summer holidays is for sports. We all know that among all of us there will be hidden talent towards sports, singing, dancing, any other extra activities for which we forget to spend the time. If we can utilise the summer time for extracurricular activities, that helps us to identify our talents, which will help you to excel in the field that your are interested in.

Time is short, spend it as you like but make sure it’s wisely utilised.

It's the best time to spread love with the family , go for a trip to places which makes your family haapy.

If you are a Final year student then please enjoy your time with your college friends as you all will get busy with your own life after completing college , later you will find it harder to take out time .

If you don't like going out then its the best time to find your passion and work on it , find more insights of thing you are excited , discover new connection's ,grow your network .

In the First Year, I just went on tracking with my group to Dalhousie. As we had just completed 12th Science and we had secured a good seat in college we decided to have a trip. I think we had a trip after long 4 years and it was needed to. So we went on trekking with bunch of hikers and enjoyed that year's vacation.

In the Second & Third year of vacation, we just did internships so that we could know what type of work is going around in Industry. It was overwhelming and tiring sometimes, as we need to do the same tasks again as it wasn't according to the standards. Yet, it was fun and frolic experience and I enjoyed working in software development rather than brainstorming on algorithms.

So I had traveled and experienced in the companies in my summer and winter breaks in my engineering days!!

Find a company that is related to what you would like to do and apply for an internship.

Go to the library or use the internet to brush up on topics that you may not have understood. You should also check out future topics.

Find some experiments that you can do at home with ease.

Find events to attend where you can go and network.

Start a blog on engineering.

Find engineering platforms, ask questions and answer the ones you can.

Visit companies and ask for a tour.

Join LinkedIn and start connecting.

When one is past 80 there may not be too many summers ahead. However, I have one grand daughter and assorted grand nephews and nieces.

We have a lot of fun doing various STEM projects.

@Divisha Madupalli • 14 Feb, 2020

Well, we can use the time by creating some projects related to our streams.

Explore our hobbies and be a perfectionist in them.

Try to improve our knowledge.

Do yoga.

Check the present technologies and understand the underlying concepts in it.

Refreshen our prev topics and be good with them.

Have a blog.

Go to an adventurous vacation.

Develop communication, logical, analyzing skills and understanding a problem.

Participate in hackathons.

Learning not to be lazy.

Explore every inch they can.

Perform a case study on some apps.
