How can ground provide return path?

I'm studying high voltage electrical engineering and came across this question: How can ground provide return path?

Ground provides a return path to the earth line in AC supply and also provides a path for closing the circuit over a range of distance

Ground does not take active part in circuit completion. Its only there for protection from leakage current. Thats why you will see many appliances, they will only have 2 pins. While its not compulsary, its highly recommemd to earth the circiit to prevent accidents.

Thats the case in AC circuits. For DC circuit the lower potential is said as ground because the lower potential is generally 0v which is equivalent to ground potential. It does necessarily means its physically connected to ground.

The earth is huge. Its soil and core have a high conductivity because of ionising minerals and metals. The resistance between properly grounded electrodes separated by huge distances is quite small.
It has no polarity either, which means that one can connect any polarity of a power supply (AC or DC) to the ground so long as they are independent. What is implied is that the earth can be used as a return path even for fairly high current loads.
There is a catch with DC though. The connection to the earth has to be carefully designed to avoid passivation as electrochemical reactions will take place at the surface of the ground electrode. The anode electrode can also dissolve and erode.

Is your alter ego 'prototype' by any chance or is it just cut and paste?

    Its not me...

Possibly he's trying to make backlinks. You can see his signature. However poor guy must know that google has changed their system and his efforts are pretty useless.

    In short, he's spamming.
