    Since you are in 2nd year, It would be better for you to concentrate in your mech. syllabus for now, since the core mech. syllabus will just start from now. Coming to the gate exam, be very clear if you are really into getting a good GATE score or not. If yes, then my advise would be to keep studying each day(not possible, but try!) and have a very clear concept of all that is being taught in class. Stay updated. As for coaching, wait till 6th sem. starts. There is absolutely NO use taking coaching in 2nd year.
