Honda's Latest CVT For Mid-Size Cars Unveiled.

Honda has always had a strong hand with the continuously variable transmission (CVT), but now the car giant aims to widen its arms a bit more. Honda recently announced that CVT, the technology that's been associated with small cars and scooters, shall now find its way into mid-size cars as well. Presently the transmission is all set for the Japanese showrooms, and even finds itself in the StepWGN. This transmission first got launched in the N BOX microvan.

Part of the Earth Dream Technology, this transmission will also be seen in the forthcoming vehicles. The upgraded CVT is in tune with an 'idle stop' system (where the engine dozes off when not being used and restarts when required) and functions with a super-effective oil pump. The refurbished CVT also boasts of Honda's new G-Design Shift fitted system for throttle, gearing and hydraulic control. The company maintains that the new system reciprocates swiftly to operator's use of the accelerator, giving out a smooth feel. Their claim also includes a five-percent fuel saving compared to the existing CVT, and a ten-percent fuel saving with respect to the five speed automatic transmission.
