  • Finding the right parking slot in big malls or parking places is a huge challenge to the entire mankind and Honda's engineers have vowed to solve that problem using a driverless system. The company has demonstrated a budget-friendly, automatic valet parking system that makes use of the CCTV cameras installed in the parking lot to help the car park itself in the right spot. All the driver needs to do is leave the car in the drop-off area and trust the technology to do the rest.

The system has been designed to find the most appropriate parking slots and then park multiple cars automatically. Honda believes that the system has lot of potential in areas where finding the right parking slot is a challenge - especially in large malls, corporate buildings, shopping centers etc.

The prototype demonstrated by Honda's engineers uses car's rear cameras - which almost every car in Japan has. The vision from this rear cameras is used along with that of the CCTV cameras installed in the parking area for the navigation of the car. The engineers say that this type of implementation is going to be very easy as compared to other methods. They expect that the system will be ready for mass implementation by 2020.

Do share your views about automatic, driverless car parking systems. Do you think it will be very commonplace in coming years?
