Hackers Attack Lockheed Martin Site, But No Classified Information Stolen

A group of hackers tried to breach the security of the US defense contractors Lockheed martin on Saturday. The cyber attack targeted the firm’s information system that holds a lot of sensitive confidential information. However while accepting these reports, Lt. Col. April Cunningham, representing the Defense Department stressed on the point that no damage has been done to the Pentagon. Lockheed Martin is the number one arms and ammunition supplier for the United States. This hacking incident comes after the huge attack on the PSN. It has already shown the vulnerability of such important websites that can compromise the nation’s security.

The Obama administration has already made a few important provisions for this and is now hiring ethical hackers to safeguard the digital information sources. Homeland Security spokesman Chris Ortman told the press that his department and the Pentagon are working in close association with Lockheed Martin to understand the actual impact of this attack and provide assistance to the company. The officials will be guided by tech geeks and ethical hackers about the ways in which the effects could be mitigated. The company uses a security system employing the RSA unit by EMC corp. The RSA got hacked way back in March which led to some important RSA data being snatched away by the hackers. This data was later used to target the financial, military and other government organizations. RSA had increased its security after this incident to assure its clients about its reliability.

Lockheed Martin is a globally recognized military contractor that is working on research, design, manufacture, sustainment and maintenance of scientifically advanced and combat efficient products and services. It is well known for having massive deals with the federal department and the Department of Defense. A lesser known fact is that the company is the biggest supplier of IT services and system integration for the US government.

Lockheed Martin was quick to officially accept that their website was hacked. However, the firm was fast enough to take countermeasures to stop the hackers and prevented them from stealing any data about their clients, employees or the technology. The defense contractors assured that their network is totally safe and no information got compromised in the May 21st attack. However, no details or specifics of the attack were revealed by the firm or the US government agencies.
