Project Abstract / Summary : The system is focused on controlling of the irrigation system and also to provide adequate irrigation. It implements the basic application of controlling the irrigation field by programming the components and building the necessary hardware. This concentrates on monitoring the necessary the soil moisture, water level of well and to check the temperature and humidity so as to forecast the weather condition and the necessary water pump is switched ON/OFF. The whole system has been monitored and controlled through GSM module. The information is given on request in the form of SMS. We are using a moisture and humidity sensor and the corresponding moisture and humidity can be known by comparing the stored values and received information from the sensor which ensures faithful irrigation for particular crop. If the subscriber wants to enquire about the water level status at a particular time, he can send a message to the centralized unit. Centralized unit checks the water level and reply the subscriber with the current status and based on the requirement of the subscriber, controlling action takes place such as water pump is either switched ON or switched OFF through an SMS from the farmer.
The project is implemented by using advanced processor ARM7TDMI which is a 32-bit microprocessor, GSM serves as an important part as it is responsible for controlling the irrigation on field and sends them to the receiver through coded signals. GSM operates through SMS’s and is the link between ARM processor and centralized unit.
Why did you choose to work on this project topic : Now a days in the agriculture sector farmer’s are facing many problems due to un-expected weather conditions. Main reason for the crop failure lies in the water quantity of the soil. If the water quantity exceeds its level for the soil the crop may damage. Same thing repeats when the water level is insufficient to the crop. The remedy for this is to continuously monitor and control the moisture level of the soil. This made me to do this project which can be very useful to farmers in the real world.
