Who won the race?? --A

Row 2predicted that F will win the race, and row 3 predicted that G will win the race... and its given that none of them predicted correctly for any right position. So, this tells that F and G can not win the race.

So looking at all 5 predictions, A is the only choice who can win the race.

Answer is A..
the options 2 and 3 have 0 right positions.
thats all the positions are wrong..
this implies F and G never finish 1st.
since in options 4 and 5 F and G comes 1st respectively.. we are left with the 1st option.. so A comes 1st

From the figure,
1: 2 right positions and one wrong position
Right: A, E Wrong: B

2: 0 right and 1 wrong
Wrong: E

3: 0 right and 2 wrong
Wrong: E, C

4: 1 right and 2 wrong
Right: B Wrong: F,I

5: 1 right and 1 wrong
Right: F Wrong: A

So A should win the race.

P.S: I don't understand this line "No of participants finishing in 1st through 5th positions that were predicted". Do you mean 5 positions or 5th position?

from the predictions of line 2 and 3, where the predictions right are 0, we infer that neither of d to k are the winners. that means one of the remaining 3 must be the winner. now, since the winner must be on the right place also at the right forecast, only A fulfills it, that is, at the 1st prediction. so A is the winner.

From the table, sing trial and error, I came up with the set of 5 persons who actually came in the top 5 positions.

It came to be "B, C, D, I and F".

Now, we need to find the order in which they finished.

Filling these info in the table, we have

1
--
B
C
D
--
2
1

2
--
--
--
--
D
0
1

3
--
C
--
I
--
0
2

4
F
--
--
B
I
1
2

5
--
F
--
--
C
1
1

Now, we know from row 2 and 3 that D is not the last and C and I are not 2nd and 4th respectively.

From row 5, either F is 2nd or C is last. Assume one of them, and find if everything is coming correctly. Assuming F is 2nd proved to be correct.
So, the correct order is B==>F==>C==>D==>I

The original table can be verified with this order to be correct.

So, B came first.. 😀

The sequence is 1st= I, 2nd= B, 3rd= K, 4th= A, 5th= E.

From forecast:

1 - Right= B (2nd), E (5th); Wrong= A (should be 4th).
2 - Wrong= E (...5th)
3- Wrong= I (...1st), E (...5th)
4- Right= K (3rd); Wrong= I (...1st), B (...2nd)
5- Right= A (4th); Wrong= E (...5th).

Therefore, I won the race... 😉
