Now no more frustration while giving commands on your mobile. It’s official that Google Voice Search or the Search by Voice feature has been further improved by the company to recognize your thick Indian accent efficiently. Yep! You heard it right. Now you will not have to fake American or British accent to make your instructions clear. The news of adding Indian dialect to its Search by Voice technology was announced by Google at the Google Cafe in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Voice Search (3)

At the event, Sandeep Menon, Head of Marketing, Google India, demonstrated the working of Voice Search technology for users with an Indian accent. Google said in the release that 700 volunteers in India were asked to read most popular search queries in different acoustic conditions like in restaurants, on busy streets and at many other places in order to reflect real life events. Google then worked on these samples of spoken instructions. The support for search is still limited to English Language.

Voice Search via Google Search app requires Android 2.3+ or above, and is also available for iOS devices. Voice Search is available for computers via chrome browser. You have to first select Indian accent by changing the settings in Voice Search. The following steps need to be followed to change the settings.

Settings>Language> select English (India)

Voice Search (2)
After that, you can enjoy the searching by speaking in Indian accent. If you want to ask something to your Google Search app next time you just need tap on the microphone and feed your query.

Google Now, which supports Indian English will better understand the Indian accent after this newly incorporated accent feature. Google Now gives the right information at the right time about today’s weather, traffic status and much more. The voice technology can also be used for sending SMS or sending an email. If you are writing an email using google keyboard then you can dictate your content along with certain commands like new paragraph, etc.

When English (India) dialect was not there in Google Voice Search we were working with either English (UK) or English (US) by default.Google gets substantial amount of information about you if you have often used Gmail or Google search.Google Now uses this auto-learn feature more efficiently.Likewise in Cortana, we can change the region for Voice search which will help it to work more efficiently.
Cortana will not arrive in India until 2015.
