Google Search app on Android is getting ready for some major changes. A report on Android Police has unearthed new features that could make searching faster for users with spotty internet connection. The first feature that was uncovered by anonymous sources talks about offline search. Now the offline search isn’t new, it has been in the works for past few months. It was withdrawn due to some bugs but it is now back. It works in the following manner if you are offline or have sub-par network connection your search query is saved for later when you are hooked on to reliable Wi-Fi. Offline searches are now saved in the manage searches option on the side menu. You can access your pending searches and select if you want to be notified when the search results are ready or not.

Next on the Google dossier is the Lite search mode. If you are on precious mobile data you might want to enable this from the settings menu of the search app or let Google choose it automatically for you when it encounters network issues. The Lite mode strips down the search results to the bare minimum text omitting data heavy results such as video or images. Google has worked on bringing Lite mode with its Google Web Light and it was inevitable that Google brings this to the mobile app.

Up until now, you could access your past search results by using the Google Activity Dashboard or typing the exact search phrase as before. Here is where the third change comes into effect, the recent search tab. This Recent option can be found on the side menu that opens a side-scrolling list of your past searches.

These changes are being rolled out to select users and will be tested for efficiency before rolling out to the public.
