Google Lets You Create Your Own Street Views On Google Maps

Google has decided to get users involved in the Google Maps Street View project by letting them create their very own Street View experiences by using their Android smartphones and DSLRs. Nexus users running Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) or above have to use the Photo Sphere mode on the camera app to capture 360 degree views of their desired location and upload them to the Views community website. Once the photo spheres are successfully uploaded the user will be able to create virtual tours of the area by pinpointing the location of the photospheres on the map using the web application.

Street View

While Google recommends that photo spheres are the best way to make a custom Street View it also allows professional photographers to use their DSLR (Digital single-lens reflex) cameras to capture high quality photos for their Street Views. This process is a bit difficult as the users have to manually stitch the photos by using third party panorama software to form the 360 degree view before uploading it to the website and creating the Street View.

Normally Google uses its own cameras mounted on top of cars or three wheeled vehicles to capture images for Street View. With this project Google hopes that it will enable users to create custom Street Views that can be used to promote national parks, museums and events. The project will also facilitate in creating different views of the same location across various seasons.
