Google Interactive Spaces Makes Physical Rooms Come Alive

The coming together of the real and the virtual in everyday life is where the technology is headed at. One of the latest Open Source project from Google is the #-Link-Snipped-#. This project offers the programmers a new API and runtime to build interactive applications for physical environment. Written in Java for support on OSX, Linux and Windows, Interactive Spaces provides a libraries collection for implementing an activity around you. Additionally, support fro Javascript, Python support as well as openFrameworks which use C++ is also there. So what a developer can implement now is essentially this - If a person steps on the carpet, the pressure sensor under it feels that and signals a depth camera whose events would give the angles of all the joints of the person it is tracking and in-turn a speech synthesis method can be used to tell the person to get off the carpet.

The image above shows blob tracking. Men are blobs and the floor makes colored circles appear underneath the feet of the person and follows him around.  Interactive Spaces also provides activities’ runtime environment. So, you can use just one web app to deploy, start or stop the activities running on multiple computers on your local network.
