Google has joined hands with automotive giants like Audi, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai and American chipmaker NVIDIA to form the Open Automotive Alliance. This initiative focuses on bringing Android platform to cars. We can hope to see the first cars equipped with Android ecosystem to start rolling out within this year itself. The OAA will be an open development model and a common platform which will allow automakers to customise Android to cater needs of both drivers and passengers of cars. The platform will be beneficial to automotive companies since they can use an existing and familiar ecosystem to deliver apps and services to users. Developers are also expected to welcome this initiative since they have a unified platform to develop apps instead of having to develop different apps for different in car systems.

OAA

To make sure that the developed systems are safe enough to be implemented on the road the OAA has sought the help of regulatory authorities like the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Google is not new at making this type of alliance as in the past a similar collaboration of tech companies and cell phone manufacturers had helped it launch Android to the public. #-Link-Snipped-# states the OAA is Google’s attempt to compete with the Apple’s iOS in the Car platform which was unveiled at opening keynote of the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in 2013.

Even iOS is making it to the cars. We're only advancing towards connected electronics - which means your car will be connected to your refrigerator.

Which means, now my car will 'hang' too? 😛

Push the brakes, if lucky enough, the brake pads will start gripping in two minutes! 😁

...if Android makes it to the cars; expect the battery to drain in the middle of the highway 😁

I don't think there is possibility of draining of power available for it. An alternator is always ready to help you out.
