Google had recently purchased Cambridge based ITA Software, developer of the airfare search and pricing system that is used by major airlines. Google rolled out a Flight Search yesterday and entered the multibillion-dollar online travel market. It seems as if Google can’t stay without being in the news every week!

For those who are unaware, ITA develops algorithms that power travel Web sites such as Orbitz and Kayak. Some travel sites had opposed Google’s acquisition of ITA since it would mean that Google gets control over the software they use.
Try searching for “san francisco to manhattan flight†and you shall see the flight search as the first result. Alternatively you can click on the "flights" tab in the left-hand panel on Google.com, and be taken away to the detailed Flight Search. Google Maps has been integrated into flight search and you can see the flight route after the source and destinations are selected. Users may filter flights by airline, flight time and price. You can simply bookmark the google.com/flights Web page in your browser.
Flight Search lets users not only see flight schedules and prices and compare several travel dates at once, but quickly make changes to dates and destinations. Google said flights are chosen primarily based on cost and total travel time.
