Google and BING similarity

I know that Google and Bing are in the same business (searching),
I was just wondering how much similar they are, BING is just similar to Google in the pattern (UI); however, they have added a few new feature still mainly UI is the same.
I even got shocked when I was trying automation of BING, Search text box (object name) for google is 'q' against my expectation it is the same for Bing as well i.e. 😒😒'q'😒😒
Have they used the same code base, oviously not, have they used same developers, hope so not.
Then what make BING developer to keep the object name as 'q'??
Any explanations??
