Glass Tunnel Link to Connect Dubai Mall And Burj Khalifa Metro Station Soon

Soon Dubai will have a Pedestrian link connecting Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping destination and Emaar Malls Group’s development, to the Burj Khalifa/The Dubai Mall Metro Station. Emmar Malls Group said on Tuesday that a raised, glass covered pedestrian walkway, called 'The Dubai Mall Metro Link', will soon be constructed linking Dubai Mall to Burj Khalifa Metro Station. It is one of the longest walkways connecting the Dubai metro to retail development.

The pedestrian Link is one of the longest pedestrian walkways with its length almost equal to Burj Khalifa’s height, which is 828m high. 'The Dubai Mall Metro Link is 820-metre long .The tunnel will be fully air conditioned with five walkalators in each direction and thus ten totally. Each is 70 to 120 meters long and 1.4 meters wide. It will move with a speed of 0.5 meters/second.  The tunnel will be built to the highest international standards, considering the safety as an important aspect. The link will have exit routes, access stairs for use.

It will allow people to travel from the Metro Station to the Downtown Dubai Development and then to the Dubai Mall with ease. At the maximum it will be capable of carrying 13,500 people per hour. It will make the visitors of the Mall to travel more comfortably. Even those who have not used the metro can use this pedestrian link.

“The Dubai Mall is one of the most visited tourist, retail, and leisure destinations in the world,” #-Link-Snipped-# Mr. Mohamed Alabbar, chairman of Emaar Properties. “While the mall offers covered parking for over 14,000 vehicles, we have been evaluating various alternatives to further streamline visitor traffic and add to their convenience. The Dubai Mall Metro Link will also serve visitors to Burj Khalifa and the various attractions in Downtown Dubai.” The officials are hoping that this arrangement will reduce the traffic congestion in the Downtown Dubai.

The link will be constructed by Dutco, a Dubai based company. The estimated budget of the project has not been announced. This project is expected to be finished by 2013.
