Garmin Launches Upgraded Version Of The Popular eTrex GPS Handheld

Garmin International Inc., the leaders in satellite navigation and tracking officially unveiled three new upgraded and enhanced models of its best selling GPS handheld eTrex. eTrex is one of the most reliable and user friendly GPS handheld device by Garmin and has already sold millions of units. This new version is a must buy for all those lost explorers and outlanders who have a serious desire treading newer paths and unknown territory. The device has been in the market for the past 10 years and is best known for its ease of operation, toughness and cool GUI. It is simple, compact, and lightweight. The announcement of the launch of these new models with advanced geocaching features was made before the commencement of the Teva Mountain Games in Vail, CO. There, the gadgets will be on display at the Garmin stalls from 3rd to 5th June.

The eTrex is also very eco friendly. It eliminates the need of paper printouts in your adventure. Using this pocket sized GPS, you can download all the maps or get geocache locations and details in the GPX file format using its superfast USB port. It is a completely paperless solution and so you can save a few trees. There is no need to manually enter the co ordinates because it automatically gives all the requisite information regarding the terrain, location, difficulty, etc. All you have to do is to upload the GPX info on your handheld and then search for caches on opencaching.com. This website is an internet community where you can find, create and share geocaches free of cost.

The new GPS gadget is available in three models- eTrex 10, eTrex 20 and eTrex 30. eTrex 10 is the basic model for those who don’t like to spend too much on such things. It has a simple monochrome sunlight readable display screen. It’s equipped with a worldwide base map that lets you know you current location and the next stop that will come by. eTrex 20 is the bigger, better version with a 2.2 inch 65k color, sunlight-readable display on which you can see a lot of detailed topographic, marine, and road maps. You can also install the free utility package called BaseCamp that helps you to plan trips, routes, tracks, and waypoints and transfer them between the computer and eTrex. You can view 2D as well as 3D maps (20k and 100k topographic maps) with the elevation levels displayed on the side panel. TrackDraw is another app that is available free of cost and can be used for this purpose. eTrex 30 has all the features present in eTrex 20. It has a few additional functions like a built-in 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass. This gives you a correct reading even when it’s not kept on a plane surface or when you are not steady. It also has a barometric altimeter that gives you an accurate measure of the terrain’s height by tracking the change in air pressure.

All these devices will be available by the third quarter of the year. The eTrex 10 will be available at a retail price of $119.99, eTrex 20 will cost you about $199.99, while the state of the art eTrex 30 is the most expensive with a price tag in the vicinity of $299.99.
