Wellingkar's Institute is providing a 2 year course for working professionals-either weekend classes or distance learning. Is it credible?

Welcome to CrazyEngineers and thank you for a clearly written post. MBA would definitely help you get into an analyst profile. You'll however need a full-time, 2 year PGDBM or similar course. I doubt you will derive much benefit from a part-time / distance learning course.

One of my friend worked in Cognizant for 2 years in testing and then appeared for CAT and completed MBA from IIT shillong and now joined Cognizant again at a very higher role than his friends.
Part time or distance learning courses are of no use. You should do MBA from a very good institute not just some run out of mill college.

Talking to the HR would be a step in the right direction. You should ideally try to achieve the profile within your own organisation. If not, build appropriate skills and try for the role in another company.

Can you be more clear, if it is Business Analyst who analyse data then you should go for a mix of finance, operation and marketing as currently in India , retail and banking sectors are the major recruiters and knowledge of these fields can give a big advantage.
