    pls i would like to know what can be designed with four bar linkages and help on how to go about it

    please explain more clearly to your question...

    minimum 4- link is required for simple mechanism.

    if all links are bar then it is called four bar mechanism..

    in any mechanism links can be.. rod, crank,connecting rod, slider, fixed surface, plate piston cylindrical block, slotted bar etc......

    by arranging few selected link and make a mechanism we can found different output like machine or moving parts which can perform different operations. we can specify our operation by to make our mechanism kinematic..be-cos kinematic link give specified operation.and it give constrained motion of mechanism.

    so by making different mechanism we can make different simple machines or part of machines and by grouping different selected mechanism we can make big machines like lathe, shaper etc...
