Ford Engineers Build Virtual Factory For Interactive 3D Vehicle Analysis
<div>
Ford assembles thousands of components together to manufacture a finished vehicle, production procedures of which are very complex. In manufacturing plants, it is important that efficient methods are employed to build low-cost, high-quality components. Keeping this goal in mind, Ford engineers have built a virtual factory to stimulate a full assembly-line process. This factory will now also make it easy to conduct tests or research for future plant upgrades.
Using cameras to scan the real world manufacturing facilities, the whole data is digitized and replicated in an interactive 3D virtual environment. Ford's Valencia plant in Spain, is the first to develop such a virtual factory and enable remote evaluations.

Meanwhile, the ergonomics expert from Ford in Cologne, Germany have started scrutinizing the fitments for tiniest of components using these computer simulations. As you can see from the image above, Ford's virtual employee âJackâ simulates actions of actual assembly-line workers so closely that 80% ergonomics issues are handled in the simulation stage itself. 3D simulations are truly paving the way for production of the future.
