Flipfone : A Smartphone From Flipkart?
Flipkart seems to be working on their own branded smartphone; reports BGR India. It's being learned that the company is now in talks with various chipset makers and might have developed some concrete plans. Not a surprising move by a company that has been mimicking Amazon in every possible way. Note that Amazon is yet to launch their smartphone; but they do have their own lineup of Kindles and Fire tablets. The companies Flipkart is in talks with is impressive and includes Intel, MediaTek and Qualcomm.
Flipkart might launch two phones under their own brand but I've no clue how these phones will be different from what you already see in the markets. All I know for sure that these phones will have the Flipkart App preinstalled and may have a dedicated key to access flipkart.
Personally, I don't think it makes sense for Flipkart to launch their own smartphone; unless they've very specialised plans for the phones. I also hope that if flipkart does launch their own 'Flipfone', it won't be a cheap import from China with Flipkart's logo on it.
On the contrast, Amazon launching their own tablets and eBook readers made sense because they've a huge collection of digital books and a global audience. I personally doubt how many people would have bought a tablet from flipkart; that'd offer no better features over the kindle.
Of course I am speculating; but stupid things is what you do when you have a *LOT OF* cash to play with. They should first focus on making their company profitable than coming up with phones. What do you say?
