FireChat App For Android And iOS Lets You Chat Without Data Connectivity
The mobile industry is booming with a new messaging app every other day. Continuing with the trend, Open Garden introduces a new app called âFIRECHATâ. The specialty of this app is, that it allows users to communicate even without any data connectivity. It could become a ray of hope for people looking for better, reliable and affordable ways to communicate. The developer of FIRECHAT and the CEO of Open Garden - Micha Benoliel tries to create a democracy of network, i.e. a network built by the people, for the people. The app exploits the technology of âwireless mesh networkingâ that is made up of radio nodes organized in a mesh topology. This network, also called as âoff-the-gridâ network is secure and reliable and canât be easily hacked.
This app is available for both Android and iOS users and it enables users to send text and multimedia photos to other Firechat users only within a range of 30 to 100 feet. The company plans to upgrade this app so that the users will be able to hopscotch through a daisy chain of devices to extend the reach of a local network. Firechatâs iphone app uses Multipeer Connectivity Framework that Apple Inc. included in its latest mobile OS iOS 7. The development of firechat was driven by popularity of mobile messaging apps like Snapchat and Whatsapp that allows user to stay in touch with family and friends without paying any charges to smartphones carriers. The app also allows users to stay anonymous. The text and photos sent on Firechat disappears once the app is closed as nothing is saved. It also allows âeveryoneâ option that allows users to get into a digital chat room with max of 80 users from same country. This option requires a cellular connection or Wi-Fi.
There aren't many scenarios where chatting with others locally makes a ton of sense, but for chatting in a library, on an airplane, in a small town, or in a sports stadium, FireChat could find itself playing a very important role.
