Facebook To Update Its News Feed Algorithm: Friends And Family Get Importance
The worldâs largest social networking site, Facebook has recently re-cultivated its searching and sorting algorithm to reflect a change in the way news are stacked in a particular profile. The users have recently complained that they miss important updates from friends and significant ones which gets lost in a series of boost posts, overflowing the panel. Keeping its motto constant, Facebook took an action in favor of them.
Lars Backstrom, Facebookâs engineering director has recently commented that Facebook has never compromised with customerâs satisfaction and as a result, they would soon release an update that would orient the posts in an order that will automatically put friendsâ updates on the top of the rest. The last update, about a year ago also set a similar hierarchy which will soon be complete with the latest addition.
Adam Mosseri, vice president of product management for News Feed has jotted down the algorithm in terms of hierarchy which highlights the points below. According to their team followed by the received responses, the most priority is given to the contents personally chosen for the user from his âFriendsâ. Next up âinformativeâ contents depending upon the userâs click will get clustered. In the 3rd step, other contents will be layered, one after another.
In a recent blog post, Facebook emphasized that it does not hold the responsibility to pick news or sort their importance. Rather, the company still believes in connecting people and everything else comes after that. Also they notified that news are selected on the basis of clicks or hits as it not only determines the popularity but also works for its business.
Strengthening some more points, Facebook revealed that the system always works on the user data. If your feed is completely under your control and if the flow is regulated with âFollowâ, âHideâ, âSee Firstâ options, your news feed ought to be individualized up to a great extent. Ultimately the team concluded the post with a hint of constant up gradation and promise to be the workplace in support of the largest community.
