Facebook Lite for Android Available For Download
Facebook has introduced Facebook Lite app for Android. The app is now available for download from the Google Play store for users from Asia. Vijay Shankar, the product manager for Facebook Lite announced the availability of the app through a blog post on FB #-Link-Snipped-#. Shankar said that the Facebook Lite app has been designed to use less amount of data and work across variety of network conditions.
Facebook's user base has grown to over a billion people all over the world and with the mobile revolution, smartphones are increasingly becoming the primary devices to access the Facebook network. The access to FB's network is dependent on the quality of the network and the regular Facebook app would not offer the top experience it was meant for.
Facebook therefore decided to design and develop an app that would work even on slower networks and support much of the functionality found in the regular app. The result is the Facebook Lite app that's less than 1 MB in size. It installs quickly even on slower networks and offers access to Facebook's core features like personal news feed, user status updates, photos and albums. Users will also get real time notifications from Facebook.
The app has began rolling out for users in Asia but Facebook has promised that it will expand to various parts of Latin America, Africa and Europe. In order to install the app, head over to the download link below. You will need Android 2.2 and up (basically covers almost every Android smartphone out there).
If you use Facebook Lite, please do share your experience of using the Lite version.
