Well, the modern Formula 1 engine is an incredible beast with a spec sheet that makes car geeks like me queasy. The basics are out-of-this-world incredible. From just 3.0 liters and 10 cylinders—without horsepower-enhancing turbocharging or supercharging—an F1 engine makes about 900 horsepower. -

Racecar Engineering is an awesome magazine. Start with this article on the soon to be phased out 2.4 litre v8.(the motor currently being used) Next season F1 will be 1.6 litre V6.
