Experimental Investigation of Light weight concrete by using Perlite aggregate
Project Abstract / Summary : ABSTRACT
Light weight concrete has become more popular in recent years owing to the tremendous advantages it offers over the conventional concrete. Even Light concrete but at the same time strong enough to be used for the structural purpose. Lightweight concrete has been successfully used since the ancient Roman times and it has gained its popularity due to its lower density and superior thermal insulation properties. Compared with Normal weight concrete, Lightweight concrete can significantly reduce the dead load of structural elements, which makes it especially attractive in multi-storey buildings. The most important characteristic of light weight concrete beside its light weight is its low thermal conductivity. This property improves with decreasing density. The adaptation of certain class of light weight concretes gives an outlet for industrial wastes and dismantled wastes which would otherwise create problems for disposal. The conventional mix has been designed for M25 grade concrete. Coarse aggregate replaced with perlite aggregate various percentages of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% with constant 20% replacement of cement by fly ash in all proportion. The harden properties like Compressive strength, Split tensile strength, Flexural strength are to be study and compared with conventional design mix concrete.
Keywords : Light Weight Aggregate, Perlite, Mechanical Properties, Split Tensile Test, Compression Test and Flexural Test
OBJECTIVES
To study the properties of perlite aggregate used in concrete, in which coarse aggregate are partially replaced by perlite aggregate (0%,25%,50%,100) into the concrete, then the following test are to be conducted.
1.Compressive Strength of concrete
2.Flexural Strength of concrete
3.Split tensile test of concrete
Final test results are Compare with Conventional concrete.
Why did you choose to work on this project topic : Nowadays economically building a multi storey building is a big issue.Because it costs so high.In my project i introduced perlite aggregate for the replacement of sand which completely reduces the cost of sand because perlite costs only 10rps/kg and we replaced cement by 20% with fly ash which also decrease the cost of cement and this project also increase the strength and using fly ash will increase the workability. This project is completely cost reducing project.Everyone is searching for the one which gives same quality but with low price.Example we can see in a product if two mobiles have same size same features same quality and everything is same except price means people will go for the lowest price mobile. So in the same way I go for this project.
Project Highlights : If we build the building by implementing this project our cost will decrease and we can also get the same strength. So I wish everyone should know about our project and could enjoy our lowest budget light weight concrete which not only decrease the cost also the self weight. This project also have future scope because light weight concrete going to be the hero in civil engineering. Specially this is a cost effective project. It can be used for all levels of people. Hence my project should win this contest.
