Error In Uploading Files.

I am getting following error when uploading any file in CE :

Note that I have Flash installed, OpenJava Installed : I can view youtube videos & upload videos there.

This problem exists in the browsers which needs external flash plugin like : Firefox, Chromium, Midori, etc.
While in the browsers with inbuilt flash i.e. pepper-flash : Google Chrome, the file easily gets uploaded.

At first I thought, It's problem in Linux as Flash plugin in linux is version 11.2 & hasn't been officially updated.
But, I checked it in my friend's Winblows too - It has same freaking problem.

So, I assume it's server-side problem in CE. I would like to ask #-Link-Snipped-# to check on this problem (or say bug?)

I hate Google chrome as it uses too much resources & I am unable to use my beloved Firefox as files are not getting uploaded using it.

Fix Pl0x!

I'm pretty sure that there's some issue either with the file or something's wrong on your machine.

Chrome on OSX. But works fine with Safari, FF as well. Others can try uploading files too. I'm sure we can then pinpoint the problem.

I'd recommend re-checking the Flash Plugin on Firefox. There were issues with it and nothing we'd do about it. I think FF and Adobe folks fixed it in their latest beta. Check if you can get the latest version. Go for beta, if it's available.

I am always using FF unstable/beta versions.

Yeah, I checked that on Windows machine of my friend's & I saw the error popping same as Linux machine. So by default I thought everyone might be having same problem as mine.

But, gosh! These mac users are not having any such problem. Lucky.

Nope. Opera was crowned the fastest browser ever and I *think* Chrome took over in the last few builds. I can say that for Windows, not sure about Linux platforms.

    IMO Opera is a bloat!
Google Chrome is good, but Firefox is just too good compared to these closed source browsers.

I also like Firefox more than chrome. I like the handling, navigation and tons of dev plugins . I bet no browser would have so much of variety and also Chrome developers forget to add master password feature like Firefox. 😀

But I find Firefox freezes some time (may be because, I have 200 bookmarks) but it's ok.

Edit: chome is resource hungry , It's not really true. Chrome have better management for running threads that is why we see lots of chrome processes running in task manager. It's highly unlikely that Chrome crashes.

#-Link-Snipped-# I have never seen my Firefox browser crashing.
BTW if you see the statistics, you'll notice how much resources Google chrome & Chromium eats than Mozilla FF or Midori.

I would like you to compare resources used by Chrome & Firefox 😀
  • lal

    @lal-R60Xjx May 15, 2013

From my experience, Opera eats the least resources 😁 Be it loading time or starting time, Opera beats FF on my PC. Chrome beats Opera in starting time though! But then, I agree that I don't upgrade FF. The version I have is 17.xx 😐 Never looked back since I started using opera. Hardcore Opera fan here!

Another confession, a couple of versions back, Opera used to crash quite often when rendering certain Facebook pages. But who cares, Facebook can wait. Crashed no more with any page after the upgrade.

Why is that Chrome can upload files on CE but FF and Opera return an error, any clue yet?

Probably windows fault 😉, can't blame.
Ok, I can't really compare resource utilization between firefox and chrome because I always see firefox taking more than 300mb ram (could be lots of open tabs and bookmarks). But here I found some benchmark suggesting that chrome take more resources than Firefox.

My personal experience, chrome is smoother than Firefox but still I prefer Firefox.😀

#-Link-Snipped-# Google Chrome uses pepper-flash which is installed within browser.
While rest of other browsers uses external flash plugins.

I guess it's bug from Adobe side (or CE? )
If it is bug from Adobe side then somebody wouldve reported it & it would've been fixed.
I am so sure that this is something related to CE server.Honestly.

Update : Seems like uploading is working fine with Firefox 21.0 in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
And also with Opera in Windows (tested by #-Link-Snipped-# )

I would like all CEans to test whether uploading using Firefox/Opera in Linux/Windows is working or not. 😀
