Entrepreneurship Anyone?

Well, here at CE we all are crazy about engineering but an engineer most often than not is extremely successful when he either becomes an entrepreneur by himself of aligns his/her engineering brilliance with some other entrepreneur. So why not try being one? I am not here asking everyone to be an entrepreneur but I am asking you just to think about it.

The world is replete with examples of people without any qualification what so ever engineering huge sums of wealth only on the basis of their entrepreneurship. Of the thousands of engineers that the world churns out today very few try to become entrepreneurs (at least in the part of the world that I come from). Why don’t we produce more entrepreneurs than engineers? Is it the risk aversion or has it got to do with the DNA of engineers? I think it is just about the thought process. Most of us never think about it. Even if we do, many of us get bogged down by the fear of not making it through. Whatever the reason be the point is that we are running short of entrepreneurs and that’s why a handful of enterprising gentlemen are making loads of money while a lot of talented engineers (including yours truly) are working for them.

#-Link-Snipped-#Think of any business; take making bread for that matter. How is bread priced? Price includes the cost of dough, firing oven, salaries of people, expenses for sales etc. and profit to top it all. If you really look at it deep down, the entrepreneur if he himself is making bread earns salary as well as profit. While, if you work for this bread maker you will get just the salary while the bread maker gets profit and a (most probably) a loyal and diligent worker for his business. Income for the businessman doubles or trebles if the bread sales double or treble. Would the salary of a person working for this businessman double or treble? Highly unlikely.

Why is the businessman making so much then? It’s all about risk! He assumes the risk of failure while lest he fails he is going to make money based on someone else’s efforts. Fair enough, so what’s wrong in it? Nothing actually. Then why be a fabulous engineer and work for someone else while you can start your own venture and try out how lucky you are? If you are ann’t lucky enough you may fail, but you would still have the satisfaction of having tried something on your own. Entrepreneurship is good, it’s risky but handsomely rewarding, but most importantly at least worth a go.

So here’s the question, entrepreneurship anyone?

IF you want ideas to start your own venture, or have some great ideas and the money feel free to respond to this post and some CrazyEntrepreneur will get back to you!
