Startup Village, the first telecom incubator in India and IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc) came together to identify the most innovative projects developed by engineering students in communication technologies. And they were pleasantly surprised to receive some awesome project entries. Among the project that made their mark was the 'Intelligent Wheelchair', a project by five students of Sahrudaya College of Engineering Technology, Kodakara, Thrissur. This smart wheelchair can be operated using eye movements, voice or a lever and is equipped with sensors that detects hazards and send SMS alerts to the patient and the doctor. Another project by students of Government Engineering College, Thrissur is called 'Smartmotive' that is basically a standing wheelchair which helps a paralyzed person stand from a seated position.

Another team brought a project called 'SMS Vehicle Locating Solution' that helps commuters send SMS alerts to auto drivers pinpointing their location in plain text as well as an identifiable landmark location code to the designated number to avoid waiting. Next is a project called STARK (Scientifically Trained Arm-Robotic Kinesis) that enhances the physical capabilities of the wearer, whereas a project called Harita (Hybrid Automated Remote Irrigation Technique for Agriculture) brings an automated solar-powered irrigation system.

One more project that created impact is called ‘Tarang’, is developed by the students of SCMS School of Engineering and Technology, Karukutty, that converts mechanical effort of any kind to electrical energy without any modification to the apparatus. We look forward to such projects coming to the market soon.
