At Andhra University in Waltair we waded through the entire Periodic table from Aluminium to Zirconium and had lots of fun.

not exactly in many cases the principles of semi conductors are misconceived as Si based though other materials also show the same phenomenondharaneeshbut most probably silicon is the best.................
