ENERGY SCAVENGING FROM NON-CONVENTIONAL RESOURCES

Project Abstract / Summary : Energy scavenging refers to the process of capturing, utilizing non-conventional source of energy and conserving the conventional energy for our future generation. This project proposes a method for capturing energy from solar, vibration and thermal sources as well as to store it for future use. This land moving energy scavenger consists of solar panels made of semiconducting photo detectors for capturing the solar energy from the sun. The vehicle consists of inline mounted Vibromet 500 SLDV sensor for the sensing and capturing of energy obtained from vibrations. It is a scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometer sensor with a high dynamic range of measurement. Thermal scavengers are thermo electric generators which exploit the Seebeck effect to transform the temperature difference into electrical energy. The land moving scavenger is provided with motors and wheels for traversing. It is supplied with a suitable input power for the efficient working. Thus captured energy from solar, thermal and vibrational sources by solar panel, thermoelectric generator and Vibromet 500 SLDC respectively is stored by this energy scavenger vehicle.

Why did you choose to work on this project topic : In today’s world for any development and for all industrial operations, energy is a prerequisite. Life becomes unthinkable without energy. Energy production and energy utilization are the indicators of a country’s progress. Solar, Thermal, Hydro, Electricity are some of the different types of energy. While energy drives the world, energy generated and utilised affects environment on a phenomenal scale. More population, rapid urbanization, increased energy generation, over production, uncontrolled consumption and damages to the environment are all inter linked issues. Each issue is slowly getting converted onto crisis threatening our survival. As our energy resources are getting depleted day by day, energy scavenging or energy harvesting would be one of the solutions to sort out this issue. Considering the future state of our energy resources this project about energy harvesting evolved into our minds.
