Energy Generation Using piezo-electric effect

Project Abstract / Summary : Energy, as we know is today’s greatest need as most of our activities is depended on some kind of energy. Energy is classified in two as renewable and non-renewable. Energy being on the verge of extinct we find it necessary to invent new method of energy generation hence, the above topic.
There are two piezoelectric effects: direct effect and converse effect. The direct effect (designated as a generator) is identified with the phenomenon whereby electrical charge (polarization) is generated from a mechanical stress, whereas the converse effect (designated as a motor) is associated with the mechanical movement generated by the application of an electrical field. Therefore, piezoelectric energy harvesting is to use the direct effect (generator).
It can be used from large scale to small scale. The production of this energy is SIMPLE CLEAN AND GREEN. The energy can be produced when you walk, talk, get angry, write your assignments and even when you propose a girl. Isn’t it truly a great method to make use of waste and get its BEST.trust me you will be amazed by your POWER. That’s why we refer it as MAKE IT IN YOURSELF, supporting further a cleaner INDIA.
WORKING PRINCIPLE


The piezoelectric effect is a special material property that exists in many single crystalline materials. Examples of such crystalline structures are Quartz, Rochelle salt, Topaz, Tourmaline, Cane sugar, Berlinite (AlPO4), Bone, Tendon, Silk, Enamel, Dentin, Barium Titanate (BaTiO3), Lead Titanate (PbTiO3), Potassium Niobate (KNbO3), Lithium Niobate (LiNbO3) etc.[2] There are two types of piezoelectric effect, direct piezoelectric effect and inverse piezoelectric effect. The direct piezoelectric effect is derived from materials generating electric potential when mechanical stress is applied and the inverse piezoelectric effect implies materials deformation when an electric field is applied. The energy harvesting via Piezoelectricity uses direct piezoelectric effect. [​IMG]
Pressure can be converted to electrical form, by means of piezo-electric material
It can be done at various plazes as
1) Stair cases
2) side walks
3) sports ground
4) High ways
5) Gyms and work places
6) Air ports
7) Dance places
8) Music concerts
9) Floorings,mats,carpets etc.
10) Institutes

FUTURE SCOPE


The proposed work portrays the concept of Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting and the results obtained after the implementation are very encouraging. Future work of the proposed idea encompasses further amplification of the crystal output to a greater extent. Future lies in the inclusion of advanced material used to design the piezoelectric crystal which further amplifies the crystal output in terms of voltage as well as current. A study could be carried out from the variety of piezoelectric crystals and after comparing the results, the choice of the optimum material for the best performing crystal could be devised.


10. CONCLUSION

From the overview, it is quite clear that piezoelectric energy harvesting has great potential at micro level and some very important part of applications are still in the research and development stage. Computational Intelligence Applications to Renewable Energy. The ability of piezoelectric
equipment to convert human body into electrical power is remarkable. It is a great hope that energy harvesting will rule the next decade in the technical field.



Why did you choose to work on this project topic : The idea of piezoelectricity intrigued us at the beginning because the whole concept of literally converting our wasted energy into electrical energy was something new to us. Again when we researched the topic further, we realized that it could be the most probable solution for clean, green and free electricity in the future. First we made sure that we ourselves are convinced with the fact that it can provide a good amount of energy enough for our day to day chores and activity, which intentionally or unintentionally accounts for 40 to 50 percent of our electricity consumption. So, to end with, it’s a simple yet futuristic technology that will not only solve our energy woes but also help us decrease the ill effects on our environment.
