i'm facing this problem with my aquarium tank where whenever i put my hand inside the water, i feel the electricity shock!

i'v tested with a test pen, but it shows nothing. I suspect some of my pumps are having electricity leakage...

Question:

1. Any device can test whether is there's any electricity in the water? Testpen doesnt seem to be doing a good job for this...

2. how can i resolve this problem? I have installed a groud probe.. but still the same problem exist.. i suspect my power socket is not conneced to earth as well...

pls advise. Thanks

Check the grounding connections and if required use an additional ground

I hope its not static current you are facing.

If not, then cechk your grounding connections.

    angmoh,
device power leakage is the only reason...you can eaither change the source else can check for proper power supply to stop same

Aberlesometimes when i carry my car keys with me going out i use that to disengage the static shock and sometimes you can actually see the spark!

    SPARK !!! MY GOSH!!!

Get it examined by a electrcian, there may be serious faults in your wire fittings in aquarium.

well you should seriously check your aquaruim, there might be short-circuit or any faulty component.

Yep it is a grounding issue and you should get it looked at soon as it could hurt the fish and potentially cause a fire.

    Residual Current Devices

Investing in a Residual Current Device (RCD), could save your life, or the lives of your family and friends. RCDs are an electrical safety device and are to the electrical industry what seat belts are to the motor industry. When using electricity outside, you should always use a RCD or an isolating transformer, to protect yourself against fatal electric shock. All RCD devices come with a test button which enables the user to test or check the device is working properly – RCDs should be tested regularly.
All new homes must be fitted with RCDs, including any extensions to existing houses. RCDs can also be easily fitted to existing homes as well. They offer excellent protection in the damp areas of your home, such as bathrooms and when working with equipment outside.

RCD's are mostly not preferred in homes as earthing faults are rare and if happens home applainces dont get much effected, better is to use a ground fault relay,if leakage current increases your relay will trip,in a ensuring your safety!!!
