Electric Plane Breaks Record At 175 Miles Per Hour
Hugues Duval broke his own record of flying a tiny electric plane at a record speed of 175 mph. His twin-engine Cri Cri electric plane had achieved a top speed of 162 mph earlier. Duval broke the record at the Paris Air Show. The tiny Cri Cri electric plane has a wing span of 16 feet and it's powered by two 35 HP electric motors. These electric motors are powered by 3 kilowatt-hours battery that weighs about 24 kg. With this configuration, the electric plane can fly for about 25 minutes at a speed of 65 mph.The plane weighs around 200 pounds.

This record speed with electric plane is getting much attention in the electric airplane community which is more focused on range than speed. With growing interest in improving the designs and development in electric planes, the aviation industry might just be taking baby-steps to ensure eco-friendly travel. The aviation technology is being assisted by the improvements in battery technologies which allow longer lasting batteries which are lightweight at the same time. Watch the video [French] -
