Journeys inevitably remind us of packing luggage and worrying about its safety throughout the trip. A new smart lock designed for luggage is here from EgeeTouch as a solution to the problem of fiddling with keys and dial codes that get lost and get stuck respectively all the time. The EgeeTouch lock functions using NFC and RFID technologies and has easy access using touch-screen. The company emphasizes on how their device ensures a hassle-free experience for frequent travelers who hate fussing over personal belongings on their much-awaited holiday getaway. Interestingly, this product is a winner at the CES Innovation Awards.

Users need to simply tap a NFC-paired smartphone on the EgeeTouch device to unlock the luggage. The device is battery operated and the company mentions that the battery lasts for 30,000 cycles after a single 100% charge. If the battery runs out of juice in-flight or at the railway station, users can operate the device using a physical key on the device or simply use the USB port for charging it.

Not in the market yet for end consumers, the company is in talks with luggage vendors to sell the EgeeTouch smart lock for $25-30 by May or June 2015. What are your thoughts on the new smart lock device? Share with us in comments below.
