Purdue University is carrying out tests to check the effect of fire on steel structures used in Nuclear Plant constructions. I think this is a good topic of discussion for the structural engineers. I wish to know how does fire or exposure to high temperatures affects the steel structures? Is this parameter usually considered while designing non-nuclear plant structures?

Does fire & temperature exposure determine the steel structure? Looking for responses from structural engineers.

You are referring to the modification of a normal iron-carbon equilibrium diagram. The scientists are trying to construct a diagram for steel.

Steel can with high degree of fire and temperature and it will have changes if some load acts on it.
