    earth acts as a conductor for dc but not for ac..
    this statement is correct i know but can anyone elaborate it furthur..
    i am not getting its explaination and why it is so...?
    plz help me out...

    um i really think ur theory is wrong. Electricians make sure that all their ungrounded wires are grounded in the event of a ground fault (Short), then they run a separate wire called the grounding (Green or Bare) To the Breaker box then to a Grounding rod that is required by the NEC to have contact with 4 ft or more contact of earth. 120volts AC used mostly everywhere u go.

    Earth is never used as "conductor"..........

    for dc also we take it as return path but if it would have been conducting then what is the need of transmission lines??????

    infact earth has very high insulation resistance......
