Dubai Mall To Expand By One Million Square Feet; Big Just Got Bigger!

The Dubai Mall of Emmar Properties will now expand by nearly one million sq ft. The mall which is already known as the world’s largest mall is now growing and trying to increase its revenues by doing so. The announcement came early this week from the developer.

The world’s largest mall which has a total area of 1,124,000 meter square already is all set to add the 1 million square feet which will consist of new hotel rooms, retail shops, and entertainment and leisure facilities. The retail space area would now become 443,000m2.

Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman, Emaar Properties, said "Dubai Mall is a powerful demonstration of the competencies that Emaar has developed in retail, regarded as one of the core sectors of Dubai's economy. Our contribution builds on the strategic vision and development goals outlined by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai."

“Just as the expectations of customers are changing, the retailing sector is also witnessing rapid shifts. Through our expansion programme, we will use the most advanced technologies to offer an integrated mix of retail and entertainment that will meet the requirements of our visitors,” said Mr Alabbar.

The project value or the completion date has not been released. With the #-Link-Snipped-# earlier this year that Emmar properties will be building a glass tunnel to connect the Dubai Mall to Burj Khalifa Metro Station the number of mall visitors is expected to increase. The 820-metre long glass tunnel which will be fully air conditioned with five walkalators in each direction will allow the visitors of the Mall to travel more comfortably. It will be commissioned by 2013. And this announcement now is expected to boost the revenue from the mall.
