DSWP Wins Its First Petchem Project In North Africa

Drake & Scull Water and Power (DSWP) won its first petrochemical project in North Africa. Though the company was formed in 2010 this will be the first project that it will undertake in Egypt. The $38m Egyptian plant contract consists of construction of the mining-grade ammonium nitrate plant in Ain Sukhna province of Egypt. The project will include the construction and pre-commissioning of civil, mechanical works, storage tank erection, piping. It will also include the structural steel fabrication and erection works.

DSWP has entered into this as a Joint Venture with, one of Egypt’s largest contracting companies, Hassan Allam Construction. They will together carry out this venture. Egypt’s Hydrocarbon Corporation will develop and operate the plant which consists of a nitric acid and an ammonium nitrate unit. The unit will include the other associated infrastructure, facilities, storage tanks, pipelies, etc.

The project will be commissioned in August 2014. When completed, the plant will produce 1,060 million tons a day of mining-grade ammonium nitrate. This mining-grade ammonium nitrate will be used in the mining and construction industries.
