Dropbox Addresses Security Concerns, Provides New Features
In a blog post, Dropbox has provided an explanation as to why some of their users were getting spam on their email addresses which they had used to register at the site. The investigation in this matter revealed that stolen usernames and passwords were used to login to Dropbox accounts. The breached users were contacted  by the team and were helped to secure their accounts.

The major cause of spam was identified when the investigators came across the fact that a stolen password was used to enter an employeeâs Dropbox account which had a project document containing user email addresses. Dropbox apologized for the same and promised that such incidents will be avoided in future.
The new features that are introduced or will be introduced to improve security include two-step authentication procedure during sign in, automatic mechanisms for detection of suspicious activity, a page to help the user to see all the active logins and in cases where the passwords are not strong or havenât been changed, the site will ask the users to change them. Â The site has also advised users not to use same passwords across different sites.
