Downsized EcoBoost, Ecosport Makes Global Debut In India

"Simple Design, Great Car", that is how the latest #-Link-Snipped-# can be described. The American company has opted for a Asian release of its all new EcoSport. The latest version of EcoSport is set to be displayed in Asian market following the #-Link-Snipped-#. The one that will be showcased is a car that created a segment of affordable SUVs in South America with its launch in 2003. But is that all? Ford has one more product awaiting its global launch along with EcoSport.

The scheme is not new and #-Link-Snipped-# was developing them for the vehicles to launch in Asia in near future. The auto company is planning to equip its vehicles with 1.0 liter EcoBoost engines. The engines that have become the signature mark of the company will now be seen in most of the cars that will run on Indian roads.

The designers have downsized the normal 1.6 liter four cylinder engines so that they supply power with just three cylinders. The 3 cylinders appear to produce power out of the delicate symmetry that is otherwise seen only in those with even number of cylinders. The engine is very efficient; emitting CO2 less than 140g/km and producing 120 PS power. The torque produced at 1300-1400 rpm is 170Nm.

The specialty of engines is not in the technical features but it is in the art with which the engineers have achieved what an advance engine can perform. The technical aspects of this smaller version are similar to what we see in the conventional engines.

About the car, Joe Bakaj, vice president, Global Powertrain Engineering #-Link-Snipped-#, "The capable EcoSport is a perfect showcase for the advanced small-displacement petrol engine, demonstrating the strength and breadth of Ford’s development and engineering capabilities". What interests me more is the reaction that the customers will give.

The trend of compacting the automobiles started in South America; Brazil-to be more precise. While the engine has its roots in Ford's Dunton Technical Centre. It is seen that the smaller and more economical version of SUVs are more popular in Brazil and the company wants to penetrate in the Asian market. The launch of the car will be an opportunity for the global brand to enter the market.
