Xiaomi's Hugo Barra had made it clear that without user's permission, no data is sent to servers in China. Now, we've a new alert from Indian Air Force that says that F-secure, a security company has found out that Redmi 1s sends user's carrier name, phone number, IMEI number and address book details (and text messages as well) back to servers in China. They found out that the servers to which information is being sent to are in the IP address range 42.62.48.0 - 42.62.48.255.

These servers are owned by CNNIC - Chinese agency for Internet Affairs, governed by Ministry of Information Industry of People's Republic Of China.

Now, instead of relying on all the other agencies, can we carry out the tests on our own and find out whether there's any truth in the claim?

Taiwan government has also been investigating the similar issues with Xiaomi phones.

If someone uncovers something like PRISM in years to come, I'm sure it'll be from China and I won't be surprised.
