How does a distributed water system work? More precisely how does a Distributed heated water system work?
Was wondering if -instant- water heating techinque can be applied to shower water? this would reduce the water wastage in an attempt of letting cold water flow before the water starts getting warm.
Also, do can we have something like water usage metre for a given tap? ie on the basis of seeing the volum of water being used at an instance when the tap is opened?

Yes, you can use insta hots (or tankless water heaters) for a shower application. Depending where inline the unit was installed would determine how much water would need to be purged although it would be minimal.

You can install flow meters on individual sources to monitor consumption.
