Difference beween regular Antivirus Scan and Boot Time Scan

Can someone tell me what is the difference between the regular antivirus scan and the scan it performs at the boot time?

    Can someone tell me what is the difference between the regular antivirus scan and the scan it performs at the boot time?
    As far as I know, boot time scan only checks for the virus or suspicious files that affect the boot sector. Not entirely sure about this though.
