Well, this is a very interesting question, I'll like to know too. Hope somebody answer.
Awile I can make a guess. Probably becouse off the fact that carbonium is a semiconductor, and in the form a compact cristal like a diamond there are no free electrons in the conduction band. But it is just the better guess a can make.😒

....because diamond has strong cubic structure , the crystal lattice provides thermal conduction.
whereas no free electrons thus its a good insulator!
