Detection and alarming of pathogens in industrial effluents

Project Abstract / Summary : Water bodies are being polluted by various sources such as domestic waste, oil spills, mining, marine dumping, etc. Apart from all these the primary source of pollution are the industrial effluents. Many industries do not have proper waste management system and they drain the waste in the fresh water which goes into rivers, canals and later in to sea and ocean. They contain chemicals- that affect the properties of water which in turn affects the marine livelihood, minerals- that cause eutrophication, bacterial pathogens that poses a threat to living organisms, hence making it unfit for usage. This project will help us detect the presence of micro organisms and their level of pathogenicity through a device and alarm it to the government authorities.

Why did you choose to work on this project topic : Monitoring of the industrial wastes on a regular basis is a tedious process. So, the installation of such devices would help the government to supervise the industrial activities daily rather than checking it in person at regular intervals.
