Datsun, the automobile brand owned by Nissan, has come up with a new sedan called the "Datsun on-DO" and has unveiled it in Russia, which is a first for the company. With Russia being the 5th largest market in the world for Nissan, they aim to triple their sales over the course of next 3 years. In fact, Nissan and its alliance partner AVTOVAZ have plans to develop an exquisite line-up of Datsun cars that will have compatibility with driving conditions in Russia. Way to go. Coming to the unique way the car is named - well, there's a good story for that too. In Japanese, 'DO' means 'way' or 'moving' whereas in Russia, 'On' means 'he'. Combining the two words, the makers want the new sedan to have the feel of a real masculine car with good strength and performance, built to provide mobility in an innovative way. Yep, that.
Coming to the features - The four-door, five-seater sedan features a 1.6L petrol engine, 87hp engine and 5 speed manual transmission. With dimensions - Length: 4,337mm, Width: 1,700mm, Height: 1,500mm and a 2,476mm wheelbase, the Datson On-Do brings in a trunk capacity of 530L.
Datsun on-DO will be built in Russia at the AVTOVAZ plant in Togliatti and the sales are due to start in the summer of 2014. The car is priced at 400,000 Roubles in Russia (US $11,304 and Rs. 6.78L) and there's no word yet from the company about the official launch.
