CUPID: A Drone That Zaps You With 80,000 Volts
Why name a drone equipped with a stun gun after a symbol of love? Well CUPID is the acronym for Chaotic Unmanned Personal Intercept Drone. This deadly drone comes courtesy of Chaotic Moon Studios who last week had managed to stir up some excitement among foodies with the announcement of Pizza Hut's New Giant Touch Screen Table Lets You Customize Your Pizza On It for Pizza Hut. The drone made an appearance at the SXSW (South By Southwest, Inc.) festival in a closed door session. The drone is a modified version of Tarot Hexacopter which is meant for carrying a digital SLR for capturing aerial views. The makers have attached a commercially available stun gun called as Phazzer Dragon to the drone. The objective of this modified drone is to help law enforcement authorities to track down criminals and temporarily immobilise them.
We are sure after looking at the image you are imagining this drone to be something out of a sci-fi movie that roams in the streets at night hunting for felons on its own but we would like to clarify that the for legal reasons CUPID has to be controlled by humans. Two people are needed operate CUPID, one for flight control and another one for firing the stun gun. The embedded camera sends back the video feed to the controllers who then are responsible for deciding whether they want to stun the victim or not. Unlike conventional tasers which are a onetime deal, the drone is capable of striking multiple times in up to 10-second bursts.
CUPID is in its prototype stage and the company is planning to mass produce it to cater needs of both law enforcement authorities and personal security agencies. If you want to see the drone in action we would recommend you to head over to the source link below.
