    The next number is 14.
    The explanation behind this is that,
    23 = (2+3)*5 = 15
    54 = (5+4)*4 = 36
    83 =(8+3)*3 = 33
    so 43 = (4+3)*2 = 14

    Oops. I have done huge mathematical mistake in hurry.
    Here is another try,
    23 = (2+3)*3 = 15,
    54 = (5+4)*4 = 36,
    83 = (8+3)*3 = 33,
    43 = (4+3)*4 = 28.
    Let me know that this time I am right or not?

    One trial from my side also
    (2+3) * 3[last digit]=15
    (5+4) * 4 =36
    (8+3) * 3= 33

    so 43 will be (4+3) * 3 =21

    Am I right?

    You got it right Shalini... , Have you taken Idea from Rajdeep's solution... Be true???

    @ Rajdeep - I hope you noticed your error again.

    Ok, here is explanation,
    3
    (3*4)+0=12,
    (12*4)+7=55,
    (55*4)+20=240,
    (240*4)+39=999,
    (999*4)+64=4060,
    The addition series 0,7,20,39,64,... is derived as follows,
    0,
    0+7=7,
    7+7+6=20,
    20+7+6+6=39,
    39+7+6+6+6=64...and so on.
    Hope you all understand the series now.

    😀 Good try...

    Easier and another method to solve would be..

    4^1-1^2 = 3
    4^2-2^2 = 12
    4^3-3^2 = 55

    And so on.....

    4^5-5^2 =
    4^6-6^2 =

    One doubt here CB,
    4^5-5^5 and 4^6-6^6 both are negative as per me. What you say?

    Hey the 4th element would be 4POW4 - 4pow4 =0 , not 240.

    next elements will be negative .

    There is nothing wrong in the explanation, just CB Sir has typed it wrong , it shoud be like following

    4[sup]1[/sup]-1*1 = 3
    4[sup]2[/sup]-2*2 = 12
    4[sup]3[/sup]-3*3 = 55
    4[sup]4[/sup]-4*4 = 240
    4[sup]5[/sup]-5*5= 999
    4[sup]6[/sup]-6*6 = 4060

    And so on.....
